Powering OVO’s Home Services Transformation with Unified Data and Analytics

In early 2020, OVO announced the acquisition of SSE’s GB household energy and related services business. This landmark deal brought together millions of customers, nationwide operations, and thousands of employees across energy, telecoms, and home services. Overnight, OVO became the UK’s second-largest energy provider after British Gas, serving more than five million households.



The Challenge – Scaling Home Insurance and Boiler Services The acquisition meant more than combining energy accounts. OVO needed to integrate SSE’s established home services - including home insurance and gas boiler maintenance - into a modern enterprise platform that could scale to meet the needs of millions of households. Achieving this required consolidating disparate legacy systems, unifying customer and service data, and building an enterprise data foundation capable of supporting OVO’s ambitious transformation.

Our Role – Data Foundations for the New Enterprise Stack transparently.tech was selected to design and deliver the core data solutions underpinning OVO’s new home services platform. Our work included:

  • Unified Data Model – Bringing together data from energy, home insurance, and boiler maintenance into a consistent, accessible framework.

  • ETL Pipelines – Designing and implementing efficient data flows to extract, transform, and load information from multiple legacy systems into a single source of truth.

  • Enterprise Data Warehouse – Establishing a scalable, high-performance warehouse to power analytics, reporting, and operational systems.

  • Integration with Enterprise Stack – Ensuring the new data foundation underpinned OVO’s wider enterprise architecture, enabling seamless interaction across customer service, claims, scheduling, and finance platforms.

The Impact – Connected Services and Smarter Decisions With these data foundations in place, OVO gained a single, trusted view of its customers across energy and home services. This enabled:
